Tips for Making the Best Slow Cooker Apple Dump Cake
Keep these helpful tips in mind when making this apple cake.
- You'll need 3 21-ounce cans of apple pie filling to fill a 6-quart oval slow cooker.
- Unlike other dump cakes where the butter is sliced and placed on top before baking, here we're melting the butter and mixing it with the cake mix.
- For the most flavor, toast the pecans before adding them to the topping.
- We're using yellow cake mix, but you could also swap in white cake mix or spice cake.
Ingredients
-
Nonstick cooking spray

3 (21-ounce) cans apple pie filling
-
1 package yellow cake mix
-
1/2 cup butter, melted
-
1/2 cup pecans, toasted and chopped
-
1 teaspoon apple pie spice
-
Vanilla ice cream (optional)
Directions
-
Add Filling
Coat the insert of a 6-qt oval slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Pour pie filing into the slow cooker.
-
Make Topping
In a medium bowl, combine cake mix, melted butter, pecans, and apple pie spice. Stir until cake mix is moistened. Crumble mixture over the apple pie filling.
-
Cook and Serve
Place a clean kitchen towel or two layers of paper towels between the lid and the rim of the slow cooker insert to absorb steam. Cover with the lid. Cook on high 2 1/2 hours. Remove insert from cooker. Let stand, uncovered, 15 minutes before serving. Serve with ice cream, if desired.
