In a heartwarming display of community care, Overton resident Lois Hall has spearheaded a remarkable initiative to collect and donate a mountain of stuffed animals to local first responders. Lois Hall, an Overton businesswoman, recognized the profound impact that a simple stuffed animal could have on a child in crisis. Over the past eight weeks, she has tirelessly spread the word on social media, urging local residents to donate new or gently used stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes. Her goal was to amass a collection of these comforting companions and pass them along to first responders, equipping them with the tools to alleviate the pain and fear experienced by children in traumatic circumstances."After having conversations online, I realized how beneficial it would be to collect these animals," Hall explained. "These stuffed 'hugs' will go with our first responders on their calls. They will have them on hand to give to children that have somehow been affected on those calls."
Delivering Comfort to First Responders
On July 10th, Hall proudly presented a total of almost 100 stuffed animals to LVMPD officers Chris Kohntopp and Chris Edwards. These dedicated first responders expressed their gratitude for the thoughtful donation, recognizing the invaluable role these plush toys can play in softening the impact of traumatic situations for children."The stuffed animals are helpful in situations where little kids are scared, have experienced trauma, and may just need a little gift to brighten their day," Kohntopp shared. "They mean more than the usual stickers and red plastic fireman hats that first responders give out."
