Sweet and tangy, this tried-and-true baked bean recipe is loaded with flavor (including smoky bacon!).

Ingredients

  • nonstick cooking spray

  • 1 ½ pound lean ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 sweet pepper, cored, seeded, and finely chopped

  • 2 15-16 ounce cans pork and beans

  • ½ cup barbecue sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup

  • 2 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 4 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 6 - 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9 x 13 x 2-inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. In a 4- to 5-quart Dutch oven, brown the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Add the pork and beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar to the mixture. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  3. Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish. Crumble bacon over the top of the casserole and cover with aluminum foil. Bake 45 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake for an additional 10 minutes. Let the casserole stand 10 minutes before serving.
