We created this double chocolate chip muffin recipe long before Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen made a TikTok sharing his favorite food from Olympic Village. The viral video reminded us just how good it is. Like the swimmer's favorite treat, our muffins are loaded with cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Top the muffins with rich chocolate ganache for an at-home version of the now-famous sweet.

How to Make Chocolate Ganache

Our chocolate muffin recipe is delicious without the chocolate ganache, but if you're hoping to closely replicate the Olympic Village recipe, don't skip it. Here's what you'll need.

In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup whipping cream just to boiling over medium-high heat. Remove from heat. Add a 11.5-ounce package of milk chocolate pieces. Do not stir. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir until smooth. Cool 15 minutes. 

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 large egg

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease twelve 21/2‑inch muffin cups or line with paper bake cups. In a medium bowl combine first seven ingredients (through salt). Stir in chocolate chips. Make a well in the center of flour mixture.

  2. In a bowl whisk together oil, milk, and egg. Add oil mixture to the flour mixture. Stir just until moistened.

  3. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups, filling each two‑thirds full. Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until edges are firm (tops will be slightly rounded). Cool in cups on a wire rack 5 minutes. Remove from cups; serve warm. Top with chocolate ganache, if desired.
